DONT IGNORE YOUR DEBTS

Ignoring debt won’t make it go away — in fact, it can make things worse. If left unpaid, your creditors may take legal action, which could result in:

  • A County Court Judgment (CCJ)

  • Deductions directly from your wages or Universal Credit

  • Bailiff enforcement visiting your home

The sooner you take action, the more options you have available — including informal solutions that could help reduce or resolve your debt without court involvement.

Could You Reduce Your Debts Without a Formal IVA?

In some cases, informal approaches can help reduce what you owe and make repayments more manageable without entering into a legally binding agreement.

  • Flexible, non-legally binding solutions

  • May stop interest and charges

  • Consolidate debts into one manageable payment

  • Explore potential reductions in what you owe

  • Friendly, confidential support

Every situation is different, but informal solutions can sometimes help you become debt-free more quickly — while keeping things less restrictive.

If you can no longer afford to pay your original creditors or debt collectors and are close to or have already defaulted - you're not alone.

You may be dealing with:

Constant phone calls

Letters and emails

Bailiff threats

Let's stop all of that.

By now, your credit file may already show defaults and missed payments. These remain for six years, whether the debt is resolved or not so there’s no point panicking about your score at this stage.

The priority now?

To get as much of your unsecured debt written off as possible and stop the harassment.

How We Support You — Without an IVA

At Say No To Debt, we understand that every debt situation is different. That’s why we offer tailored, informal support to help you understand your rights and explore the best options for your circumstances — without needing to enter into an IVA.

We take the time to review your debts, assess affordability, and help you respond to creditors confidently. In some cases, we may help you challenge debts that are incorrectly documented or potentially unenforceable under consumer credit law. If appropriate, we’ll also guide you through steps that could lead to reduced balances, frozen interest, or more manageable repayments.

Our aim is to provide a supportive, no-judgement space where you can take control of your financial future — without being rushed into formal agreements or long-term commitments that may not be right for you.

We don’t offer or arrange IVAs — and we believe that, for many people, there are better alternatives worth exploring first.

  • Do I need to go into an IVA to get help with my debt?
No, an IVA isn’t the only option. There are other routes that may allow you to resolve or reduce your debt without entering a formal arrangement like an IVA. We'll explore what's suitable for your personal circumstances and always explain the pros and cons before you decide.
  • What types of debt can you help with?
We support people dealing with unsecured debts like credit cards, loans, payday loans, store cards, and overdrafts.
  • What types of debt can't you help me with?
We do not assist with: Council tax arrears, parking fines, or speeding tickets Government-related debts Secured debts such as mortgages or loans secured against a property
  • Can I get help even if I’m working full-time?
Yes. Debt can affect anyone, regardless of income or employment. We look at your full financial picture to see what support might be suitable based on what you can realistically afford.
  • Will this show up on my credit file?
Informal solutions may not be recorded the same way as an IVA or bankruptcy, but if you’re already in arrears or default, your credit file may already reflect this. We’ll always explain the impact before any decisions are made.
  • I’ve been turned down for an IVA — can you still help?
Yes. Not everyone qualifies for or benefits from an IVA. We may be able to explore other informal or legal options that better suit your situation and don’t involve entering a binding, long-term agreement.
